Manufacturer: Churchhill Livingstone

Synopsis

This volume presents the theories, validation and techniques of manual treatment for both chronic and acute neuromuscular pain and somatic dysfunction. The book takes a regional approach to treatment, providing a structural review of each area including ligaments and functional anatomy. It then examines each muscle and joint for a particular region, and includes step-by-step protocols for each muscle to be treated, giving particular reference to the treatment of trigger points. This text ensures the safe and effective application of soft tissue techniques and provides an invaluable source of reference to all manual therapy students and practitioners.

Annotation

The book contains predominantly two-color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations.

Dana J. Lawrence

This book offers a full overview of the foundation and application of neuromuscular technique. It presents information that describes the history of neuromuscular techniques (NMT), including the basic science background, approach to diagnosis, and clinical application. Several chapters provide full descriptions of various and numerous treatment techniques. The purpose is to properly describe the clinical application of neuromuscular technique and soft tissue manipulation. This is directed to all therapists who use manual therapy. The book initially describes connective tissue and muscles, moves to discussing proprioception and the brain, and then to examining causes and patterns of muscle dysfunction. This then leads to more clinical descriptions of trigger points, inflammation, and pain. Finally, the book presents a regional approach to all the techniques used in NMT. The text is profusely illustrated, with headings printed in red ink to highlight them. Boxed information helps to support concepts presented in the main text. This book does an excellent job of bringing together the latest thinking on and support for neuromuscular technique. I found the chapter on the patterns of dysfunction to be one of the best explanations on this subject I have ever read. The clinical information in the chapters on the techniques is well organized and presented. Overall, this is a very worthwhile addition to the literature on manipulative therapy.
