Deep Massage – The Lauterstein Method is a unique approach to structural and energetic bodywork. David Lauterstein developed this originally at the Chicago School of Massage Therapy in 1983 and has been teaching it worldwide ever since. This method integrates both the art and science of bodywork, with roots in the traditions of Rolfing, Cranio-sacral therapy, and Zero Balancing.

Deep Massage training participants learn to:

  • Apply over 50 new deep techniques to thoroughly relieve clients’ pain and tension (20 in each workshop)
  • Design individually-based Deep Massage sessions which address energy as well as structure simultaneously
  • Use the “fulcrum” model to cultivate a much higher quality of touch
  • Use observation skills to see the “working signs” of mindbody healing
  • Utilize an integrated energy model to see the common ground underlying chakras, meridians, bioenergetic therapy, etc.
  • Facilitate the client’s letting go from inside out; rather than trying to force change from outside in
  • Cultivate a higher level of bodymechanics and psychomechanics™.

In this special class, we will work with three levels of students – beginning, intermediate and advanced. Students will learn and do their practical work with others at their level of advancement. David and his assistants will closely supervise each participant. There will be a high level of attention paid to your “getting” the work in your hands and heart - so your clients will feel immediate and deeper benefit.

The Level One students will learn 25 powerful soft tissue “fulcrums” for the back, pelvis, legs, front torso, shoulder, neck and head. They will also learn all the basic theory of deep massage including energy model, working signs of mindbody healing, and how to create soft tissue fulcrums.

The Level Two students (who have taken Level One one or more times) will review level one and learn 20 additional soft tissue fulcrums for the iliopsoas, anterior neck, subscapularis, pectoralis minor, adductor magnus and side-lying fulcrums for the lower back, sides and back of the thorax and pelvis.

The Level Three students will review earlier study and learn additional fulcrums for psoas, iliacus, seated fulcrums for the back, shoulder girdle and hip. Level Three also goes more deeply into psychological and structural models facilitating a higher level of individualized session design.

David has developed this three-workshop program leading to certification in Deep Massage: the Lauterstein Method. Those who have previously taken Deep Massage workshops with David can count them towards the process. Full details are available from him at DavidL@TLCschool.com
