Purpose:This
book continues its high standards. Although not specifically stated,
the purpose is to educate students entering healthcare-related
programs, healthcare practitioners, and lay persons in medical
terminology.
Audience:It is designed for students entering
a healthcare program, practitioners returning to a medical career after
an extended absence, volunteers for Red Cross or a hospice, and a
myriad of healthcare professionals as well as lay persons.
Features:The
programmed-learning, self-paced book is designed to ease the reader
into the language of medicine. It contains 10 units organized by topic
and body system. The word-building system format presents and
reinforces word parts and word building with frames. Active
participation is required through reading, writing, answering
questions, labeling, repetition, and immediate feedback. Updates to
this edition include new frames, new dictionary exercises, new medical
specialty photographs, new radiographic photographs, new lab testing

Assessment:This
is a needed update to the 1998 edition due to the changes in medicine.
