This book presents the basics of
structural touch ortherapeutic massage techniques and their application
in varioussettings. It includes sections on ethics and aspects of
establishing abusiness. The book is designed to be used as a text and
reference fortherapeutic massage educators and practitioners. It meets
the statedobjectives and is a good resource. The targeted audience is
studentsof therapeutic massage in the classroom setting, practitioners
incontinuing education courses, and other health professionals
andbodywork practitioners who are seeking a reference source. There
aremany good illustrations, but for some the labeling is difficult
tofollow; the label is not adjacent to the illustration but located
atthe bottom of the page. The material is current with an abundance
ofpertinent references. A positive feature is that the text is set
toleave a three-inch margin, which is excellent for personal notes.
Thereis an appendix that contains all references listed at the end of
eachchapter plus any additional references used in developing thetext.
This book is easy to read and will be useful to students
andpractitioners of therapeutic massage. It reviews the history of
massageand the scope of practice across many disciplines. It presents
detailedinformation for application of therapeutic massage techniques
formultiple conditions and populations ranging from the abuse victim
tothe terminally ill. It is a thorough source of information for
thoselearning, teaching, or practicing therapeutic massage.
Biography
Sandy
Fritz, MS, LMT is the Owner, Director, and Head Educator of the Health
Enrichment Center, Inc., School of Therapeutic Massage. Also in private
practice for almost 30 years, Sandy works with a diverse clientele,
dealing with everything from stress management massage to
physician-referred rehabilitative care upon physician referral. She has
developed and supervises a student massage clinic with the Detroit
Lions of the National Football League. She also provides professional
sports massage and rehabilitation for individual athletes, primarily in
golf, football, basketball, and baseball. In addition to being
published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, Sandy is a prominent author of many Elsevier massage therapy resources, including: Sports
